How to Choose the Right Wedding Photographer in Michigan

Before diving into the list, here are a few things worth considering:

Style matters more than you think
Some photographers lean documentary (candid, unposed), while others are more editorial or traditional. Most couples today are drawn to a blend…natural moments with a refined, guided touch.

Experience with Michigan locations
From the beaches of Lake Michigan to estate venues and downtown city venues, lighting and environments vary a lot. Experience here makes a huge difference.

Consistency > one good photo
Look for full galleries, not just Instagram highlights.

Connection is everything
You’ll spend more time with your photographer than almost anyone else on your wedding day – make sure it feels easy.

Red Flags to Avoid

  • Unclear or too-good-to-be-true pricing. Unfortunately, you do get what you pay for. If it feels way too cheap, it probably comes at a cost.
  • No full galleries. You want to see how they document an entire day, not just the highlights.
  • No flash photos in their portfolio. This can mean they either don’t know how to use flash or don’t bring it… which can lead to really poor quality images once the sun sets. Think grainy, blurry, or way too dark. You deserve photos that look amazing all day (and night) long.
  • No reviews. If no one’s publicly vouching for their work, it’s worth asking why. Client testimonials are a huge green flag – they show that not only did people like their photos, but they actually loved the experience, too.
  • Overly posed photos. If every photo looks stiff or staged, you may not be seeing the real magic of the day — the genuine, unfiltered moments.
  • Poor communication. If they’re slow to reply, vague, or hard to pin down during the planning process, that probably won’t get better on the wedding day.

Consider joining the “Michigan displeased brides” facebook group, to look into certain vendors you’re considering. If you ever have a bad gut feeling – trust that, and do more research.

  • I offer flexible, all-day wedding coverage designed to tell the full story…because your wedding isn’t something that should feel rushed or boxed into a timeline.
  • While I’m always there to offer guidance when it’s helpful, my approach is rooted in giving you the space to be fully present, so your day unfolds naturally, and your photos reflect that.
  • I photograph using a blend of digital, 35mm film, and Super 8 – creating imagery that feels timeless, layered, and a little nostalgic in the best way.
