A micro wedding in Northport, Michigan | Norton’s

August 24, 2025

Brad & Paige’s wedding day in Northport, Michigan was everything a micro wedding should be—intimate, relaxed, and full of personal touches that felt uniquely them. From their first look to their last dance, the whole day unfolded in a way that let them soak it all in.

Getting Ready at the Northport Inn

The morning started off quietly at the Northport Inn, where Paige slipped into her dress after some low-key getting ready portraits. I photographed the details—her dress, florals, and sentimental pieces—before she shared a sweet first look with her dad. It set the tone for the heartfelt, family-centered day ahead.

First Look at Haserot Park

From there, we headed to Haserot Park and found the perfect tucked-away spot for Brad and Paige’s first look. With Lake Michigan just steps away, it was private and emotional—one of those moments that reminds you why first looks can be such a grounding part of the day. Afterward, we captured group portraits with their closest family and friends, keeping the vibe relaxed and fun.

A Simple & Sweet Ceremony

The ceremony itself was short, sweet, and stress-free—thanks to having already done their first look. Surrounded by their people, Brad and Paige said their vows in a setting that couldn’t have been more peaceful.

Group Portraits with Family & Friends

After the ceremony, we took time for some group portraits. With just their closest people there, it felt relaxed and fun instead of rushed. Everyone could actually enjoy the process, and we got through the must-have family photos quickly so Brad & Paige could move on to celebrating.

Unique Touches: A Motorcycle & Cocktail Hour

Right after, we snuck in some portraits and even signed the marriage license on Brad’s motorcycle (yes, you read that right—such a cool, unique touch!). Then it was time for cocktail hour—and here’s what I loved: Brad & Paige actually got to enjoy their own cocktail hour. So many couples miss out on that, but these two mingled, laughed, and celebrated every minute.

(Pro tip: if you’re hoping for this too, plan a first look so you can knock out portraits earlier and be free to enjoy your party.)

Reception at Willowbrook Mill

Their reception was just a short walk away at Willowbrook Mill, one of the most charming venues in Northport. Inside, the space felt cozy and welcoming. They cut the cake, and then everyone sat down for what I can honestly say was one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten at a wedding. Whoever is cooking there is phenomenal—every guest was raving about it.

Golden Hour & Dancing the Night Away

We stepped outside for a few quick couples portraits, keeping it short and sweet so they could get back to their party. Their first dance flowed right into an evening of fun, laughter, and packed dance floors.

Why I Loved This Micro Wedding

Brad & Paige’s day was a perfect example of why I adore micro weddings. Without a strict timeline or overwhelming guest list, they got to focus on what mattered most: being present, celebrating with their closest people, and creating memories they’ll never forget.

If you’re planning a small wedding in Northern Michigan, Northport’s Haserot Park and Willowbrook Mill make for an incredible combo. And if you’re looking for a more adventurous feel, the Sleeping Bear Dunes are just a short drive away.

Tips for Planning a Micro Wedding in Northern Michigan

  1. Choose a venue within walking distance – Just like Brad & Paige, having everything close by makes your day feel effortless. Check out some of my favorite small ceremony sites in Michigan.
  2. Do a first look – It takes the pressure off and gives you more time with your guests. Read my recent blog on why a first look is beneficial.
  3. Keep portraits short & sweet – You don’t need hours of photos to get stunning memories. A quick golden-hour session is perfect. Interested in knowing how to create a wedding family list? Read here.
  4. Make the food a priority – With a smaller guest list, you can splurge a little more on a phenomenal meal.
