They say rain is good luck on your wedding day—and for Brad and the Thompsons, it couldn’t have been more spot-on. Their micro wedding in Frankenmuth, Michigan, was filled with joyful spontaneity, heartfelt moments, and perfectly timed breaks in the rain that let us sneak in stunning portraits all over town.
The day started at their home, with relaxed, candid portraits of the two of them getting ready together. The laughter, little shared looks, and unhurried pace set the tone for a day that was all about connection over perfection.
Our first stop was St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth. Its historic architecture and striking steeple made the perfect backdrop for timeless, romantic portraits. The contrast of the soft rain against the bold brickwork made these shots some of my favorites from the day.
From there, we headed into downtown Frankenmuth to capture portraits on the iconic covered bridge over the Cass River—a true postcard moment. The rain only added to the charm, making the colors pop and giving the whole scene a romantic glow.
Tucked behind Bavarian Inn, we found the cutest little vineyard. Even in the drizzle, it was pure magic—lush vines, rustic charm, and a cozy, intimate feel that perfectly fit their day.
We couldn’t leave downtown without stopping at a couple of Frankenmuth’s most famous spots. First, Zehnder’s—its Bavarian-inspired façade is a classic backdrop for photos. Then, we made our way to Prost for some fun, modern, and lively portraits.
Next up: the local Jimmy John’s—the site of their very first date. As we were shooting, a curious lady walked in and asked, “What’s going on?” We all had a good laugh, and it made for the perfect candid memory.
Brad actually went in and purchased the table and chairs from their first date (no joke) & surprised Stef with it when they entered their reception. It was so sweet and thoughtful!
We also stopped at the soccer field where Brad proposed. This location was filled with nostalgia and meaning, and it was so special to capture them there, reliving the moment that started this whole chapter.
Before the ceremony, we returned to their property for a few more portraits. The soft rain, familiar surroundings, and quiet moments between them made for some of the most intimate images of the day.
Brad, being a local firefighter, made his entrance on an 1812 fire truck—and it was nothing short of epic. The ceremony itself was heartfelt and joyful, with family and friends gathered close.
After the vows, we took group portraits before heading into a relaxed and lively after party. The celebration was cozy, full of laughter, and the perfect ending to a day that was uniquely theirs.
The rain might have been constant, but it gifted us with perfect little pockets of dry weather right when we needed them. It added a romantic mood, kept the streets quiet, and made every location feel extra magical.
Brad and Stef—your day was pure joy from start to finish. Thank you for letting me capture it all.
