There’s something about a Detroit micro wedding that just hits differently. And Rouba and Tarius’s day? Completely unforgettable.
From the moment I stepped into their vintage Airbnb in the heart of Detroit, I was in love. The space had this timeless charm—think antique structure, rich wood textures, and that old-world luxury that makes everything feel more romantic. It set the perfect tone for a day that felt elevated, soulful, and entirely intentional.
Rouba got ready downstairs in her satin off-the-shoulder gown (wait ‘til you see the sleeves—seriously stunning). She carried a bouquet of classic white lilies—simple, elegant, and striking against the vintage backdrop. Tarius looked just as sharp in a tailored black tux. These two have style.
Their first look took place outside, right in front of the Airbnb’s beautiful facade. It was intimate and emotional—just the two of them, soaking in the moment before the whirlwind of the day began.
That’s exactly the kind of moment I love capturing with documentary-style wedding photography—honest, unscripted, and full of feeling.
Next, we captured some portraits in front of the property & by the beautiful lilacs out front. Rouba was glowing.
Afterward, we explored the city for portraits at two iconic Detroit landmarks. The Detroit Institute of Arts gave us elegant marble steps and soft light, perfect for editorial wedding portraits. Then we headed to the Fisher Building, where art deco architecture, golden tones, and vintage elevators gave us that cinematic flair. It was truly a dream. I am living for those black and whites.
One of the most moving parts of the day was their private vow exchange. We found this quiet little pocket of trees tucked away downtown—peaceful, shaded, and surprisingly private. Surrounded by green light and soft breezes, they shared words written just for each other. It was so intimate, so raw—I definitely teared up behind the camera.
Their ceremony took place back inside the Airbnb, where the most stunning colorful florals by @goldieblossoms framed the room. Lush, romantic blooms transformed the space into a cozy, luxurious setting for their “I do’s.” Every part of it felt grounded, meaningful, and full of love.
We ended the evening at @primeandproperdetroit, with cocktails clinking, and good conversation. They even thought to have a special drink for me, as well (I get the BEST couples) A modern dinner party meets old-school romance. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
Rouba and Tarius planned a day that felt like them—elegant but easy, stylish but sincere. That’s the heart of a Detroit micro wedding: you get to slow down, feel everything, and celebrate in a way that’s completely your own.
Thinking of keeping things small, meaningful, and oh-so-stylish in the city? Here are a few tips to help bring your vision to life:
1. Book a vintage Airbnb or unique rental space.
Detroit is full of hidden gems with character—look for a space with great light and vintage charm that can host your getting ready, ceremony, and portraits all in one.
2. Pair iconic landmarks with quiet hideaways.
Places like the Detroit Institute of Arts or the Fisher Building are editorial gold—but don’t overlook little hidden spots (like Rouba + Tarius’s private tree-covered vow exchange) for heartfelt moments.
3. Go all in on the details that matter.
Smaller guest count = more room in the budget for meaningful florals, dreamy outfits, or a dinner at a high-end restaurant like Prime + Proper. It’s your day—make it feel luxe in your own way.
4. Skip the traditional reception, opt for a dinner party.
Instead of the big party, consider a reservation at one of Detroit’s top restaurants with your closest crew. It keeps things relaxed but still elevated.
5. Hire a photographer who gets it.
Micro weddings are about emotion, not production. Go with someone who captures your day in a documentary style and knows how to blend editorial elegance with candid, real-life moments.
Whether you’re dreaming of a vintage Airbnb ceremony, editorial portraits downtown, or a slow and soulful day captured with intention—I’d love to help bring it to life.
Let’s connect and start dreaming it up together.
