From our very first Zoom call, I knew Jake and Kendall were something really special. Their bubbly personalities and genuine love for one other is something I really appreciate about them, as a committed lover of sappy chick-flicks. No shame. We think this kind of love only exists in the movies or our binge-worthy tv shows, but it’s right in front of us all the time. They told me all about their vision for their dreamy Bloomfield Hills wedding, and I was absolutely in.
Our initial conversation made it feel like I was chatting with old friends, not the new clients that were inquiring with me for the first time. But that zoom call wasn’t enough, you see, because Kendall and I began memoing one another regularly for check-ins and life updates. Our connection only grew during their engagement session, and it made me that much more excited to capture their Bloomfield Hills wedding.
The wedding morning kicked off at The Kingsley Bloomfield Hills – A Doubletree by Hilton, a charming hotel in South East Michigan. While my fantastic second shooter, Alysha Jayne Photography (seriously, she’s the best!), was with Jake and the guys, I was with Kendall and her bridesmaids, documenting their morning as it unfolded. From the intricate details of the dresses to the stunning flat lay, every element told a story.
One of the most special moments was photographing Kendall’s reception dress – a beautiful recreation of her mother’s wedding gown. Such a unique and heartfelt touch. When I say Kendall looked Vogue-ready, I mean it; I swear that girl could have showed up to her own wedding in a brown sack, and everyone would have still been in awe. You think I’m joking, but I am 100% serious.
Kendall shared a touching moment with her bridesmaids and father during the first look, a memory that will forever be cherished. Her girls got an A+ on hyping Kendall up.
Meanwhile, Jake was feeling on top of the world, ready to see his other half again, all dressed in white. I of course, had to go run and check on him, and give him a big hug. It’s 2025, but cloning has not become a thing yet? No fair. I wish I could photograph both the groom and bridal prep, but thankfully I have the most fabulous second shooters, so it all works out. But yes, I do get FOMO, if you were wondering.
How was it already ceremony time?! We excitedly head over to St Hugo of the Hills, a breathtaking church in Bloomfield Hills. It was one of the most stunning Catholic churches I’ve had the honor of photographing. The ceremony was intentional, beautiful, and filled with love. Jake’s expression when Kendall was walking down the aisle melted my sappy heart, and was a highlight of their ceremony.
I was in actual awe during this ceremony. This church was so gorgeous. The stain glass windows were mesmerizing. St Hugo of the Hills (of Bloomfield Hills) was built back in the 1930s, and restored in 2001. Read more about the church here.
We stepped outside to catch a moment, and soak up the beautiful ceremony that just took place. Too often, weddings feel fast and fleeting, and it’s always important to take some intentional time throughout the day to slow down, and appreciation one another & the special day.
My favorite photos are usually the documentary photos, taken within purely authentic moments from a wedding day. There’s something so raw and beautiful about a photo that is taken when no one is trying to show up any certain way, creating photos that are as authentic and timeless as the love and memories being celebrated.
There is actually a photo of my husband and I hung up on our living room wall, dancing at a friends wedding. We had no idea this photo was taken of us, and it is still, almost 8 years later, our favorite together. It was purely candid, and so when we look at it-it just feels so us.
Once we had a moment to soak in all the beauty of the day so far, we began family portraits. I always prepare a list ahead of time. While my second shooter, Alysha went off to capture some reception details, Kendall’s aunt Susie helped me check off each combination. Creating a list ahead of time allows for very smooth and efficient wedding days, while also allowing couples to get all those important photos that they can cherish for a lifetime.
I always try to capture one wide portrait, as well as a close-up landscape photo of each combination, to provide some variety.
After we finished family portraits, we captured some stunning editorial bridal party portraits. I was drooling over these photos, as I was taking them. Like how was it even possible for this group to look so dang good? It should be illegal. I’m kidding, I am. But like – dang. Am I right or am I right?
Of course, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to capture some intimate moments in the church’s garden – a perfect setting for Jake & Kendall’s last set of portraits there at St Hugos.
The party really kicked off at the American Cultural Society in Clinton Township. I met up with Alysha, as she was wrapping up Jake & Kendall’s reception detail photos. My jaw may have actually touched the floor when we saw all the lavish florals. You think I’m kidding, but you would have been helping me pick it back up if you were there with me. I was prepared, as Alysha had sent a “Wow, these details are some of the most incredible ones I have ever seen.” She was not wrong; they were stunning.
As the reception doors swung open, the room burst into life with a dazzling display of (cold) sparklers, setting the stage for what was sure to be a night to remember. Jake and Kendall made their grand entrance with a flair that could only be described as delightfully bold, instantly capturing everyone’s attention and kicking off the festivities with a bang.

Following their sparkly debut, came the pièce de résistance—the Hora. As they were hoisted high on chairs by their enthusiastic crew of friends and family, the room erupted into cheers and laughter. The Hora is more than just a dance; it’s like a rollercoaster ride of joy and unity, where the couple literally gets a lift from their loved ones. The circle of people represents an unbreakable bond, and holding hands is a fun reminder of the love and support that’s always there.

In this whirlwind of music and movement, they felt the buoyant embrace of their community, surrounded by those who would be there to cheer them on through thick and thin. It was a wonderful moment that celebrated not just their love, but the vibrant, supportive group that’s got their back every step of the way.
Next, Jake and Kendall shared their first dance. It was a heartwarming moment, with the two of them moving together to a song they loved. There was something incredibly genuine about the way they looked at each other, and you could feel the love in the room.
After the dances, it was time to cut the cake. They cut the first slice together, laughing as they fed each other a piece. It was a fun and sweet moment that everyone enjoyed watching. No, Jake did not smush the cake into her face, and I was very pleased with that (thank you, Jake. You’re the real MVP for not making me edit out smashed cake pieces from Kendall’s eyelashes during sunset photos)
The moment came for the bridal party to share their heartfelt words. Each speech, a unique blend of humor, affection, and poignant stories, painted a vivid picture of the love and journeys of the newlyweds.
Amidst these heartfelt speeches, a moment of quiet reflection and spiritual blessing was beautifully woven into the evening. The prayer resonated deeply, enriching the ceremony with a sense of peace and sacredness, and reminding everyone of the profound bond being celebrated.
Dinner time! Once everyone had eaten their fill, Jake & Kendall began to make their rounds, greeting their guests. I, the official paparazzi, followed them around, taking inconspicuous photos (Ha, just kidding – my flash totally gives me away. Rude right? I need my flash to flash without flashing. Come on.)
But in all seriousness, they took the time to chat and share a laugh with everyone, making sure each person felt appreciated for being there on their special day. You could tell their friends and family meant the absolute world to them. Truly.
We also made sure to capture the table run, where we ran to each table in under two minutes, to get portraits of Jake & Kendall with each table of their guests. It’s a really fun way to get photos with everyone who attends your weddings. I highly recommend!!
Watching the parent dances during a wedding reception holds a special place in my heart, especially as a mama of two young boys. There’s something incredibly touching about the mother-son dance that resonates deeply within me.
As I see mothers twirling their sons around the dance floor, it’s like witnessing a beautiful snapshot of their journey together. Those moments capture the pure love and bond built over years of laughter, tears, and countless memories. It think of the days where their tiny hands are wrapped in mine, as we dance around the living room, blissfully unaware of the world outside.
The sight of a mother holding her son close, perhaps with a few tears in her eyes, reflects the bittersweet nature of growing up. It’s a reminder that our little boys will someday become men, and that these moments are fleeting. Each step they take on that dance floor symbolizes a step toward independence, yet in that moment, they are still her little boys, wrapped in a cocoon of love.
These dances remind me of the lessons I want to impart to my boys: to cherish the special women in their lives, to show love and respect, and to always hold onto the memories that shape them. It’s a beautiful reminder that no matter how old they get, they will always have that special connection with their mothers.
So, as I watch those dances, I can’t help but feel a wave of warmth and nostalgia. It’s a celebration of love, family, and the precious moments that make life so beautiful. In a world that often moves too fast, these dances are a gentle reminder to slow down and appreciate the bonds that truly matter.
At the same time, I also love watching the father daughter dance, as well. There’s something incredibly sweet about seeing a dad hold his little girl, swaying gently to a song that reflects their journey together.
It’s a moment that captures all the love, laughter, and protection he’s given her over the years. Watching that dance shows me of the special bond they share—how he’s been her first hero and how, in that moment, she’s still his little girl, even as she steps into a new chapter of her life.
It’s a beautiful reminder of the love that lasts a lifetime, no matter where life takes them. Together with the mother-son dance, these moments truly celebrate the heart of family.
Once it was getting close to sunset, I snagged the newlyweds away. My camera was getting jealous of how much time their guests were getting. Just kidding.
But seriously – the sunset was nothing short of breathtaking. The sky was adorned with vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples, creating a surreal setting.
As we slipped away from the reception, it felt like we were stepping into a different world, where time stood still and the only thing that mattered was Jake and Kendall’s, and their love for one another.
These sunset moments are not just about capturing beautiful images; they’re about giving the couple a few precious minutes to themselves amidst the whirlwind of the day. It’s a chance for them to reflect, to embrace, and to simply be present with one another. The resulting photos are always some of my favorites, not just because of their visual beauty, but because of the genuine emotion and intimacy they convey.
Every sunset is unique, and every couple brings their own story to these moments. It’s a privilege to witness and capture such a significant part of their journey, framed by nature’s most stunning display.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the atmosphere shifted into full party mode. With the vows exchanged, the cake devoured, and the obligatory group photos taken, it was finally time for everyone to let their hair down and really celebrate.
The DJ hit play, and it was as if the dance floor had been electrified. Suddenly, shoes were kicked off, ties were loosened, and the unmistakable sound of laughter mixed with the beats of the music.
I have to admit, in the midst of the joyful chaos, I found myself swept up in the revelry. For a brief moment, I forgot I was even working. It was impossible not to. This group knew how to party like there was no tomorrow. Their energy was infectious, and pretty soon everyone was dancing.
Glasses clinked, stories were shared, and there was a constant stream of guests attempting to outdo each other with their dance moves. The party was officially off the charts, and I was there, camera in hand, capturing every glorious, goofy, and heartfelt moment—each snapshot a testament to the fact that this was a night to remember.
In the end, it wasn’t just about the music or the drinks, but the undeniable sense of togetherness and joy that made this celebration truly unforgettable. And as I watched them dance together, I couldn’t help but think: if this is what the rest of their lives together looks like, they’re in for one heck of a ride!
They ended the night with a group dance, arms around each other, swaying together. It was really special to witness. I have seen so many different wedding exits, but I had never witnessed one so simple, but beautiful.
Jake and Kendall’s wedding was a celebration of love, laughter, and the kind of friendships that last a lifetime. Capturing their story was a privilege, and being part of such a genuine and special celebration was a reminder of why I love what I do.
Here’s to Jake and Kendall – a couple who truly belong together, with a love story that’s as genuine and wonderful as they are. I have so much love for you both! To forever, my friends.
